It should be apparent to all of you who are reviewing the Bulletins we send out on the various economic impacts, subsidies, grants, benefits, EI applications etc., that providing this information is a moving target. The announcements come out from government and people start calling or emailing with questions, and the details follow. Therefore, please stay tuned and stay current. We are trying to provide timely and accurate information, summarized for use of our customers. As the details come out some things change.

On March 25, 2020 the federal government announced a new “Emergency Response Benefit”. This benefit replaces and combines the previously announced Emergency Care Benefit and the Emergency Support Benefit.
The Federal aid package now totals $107 Billion.
On top of this Federal package, the Provincial governments are also providing Billions of dollars of COVID-19 emergency funding.
Keeping politics out of this, it is important for all of us to recognize that in the future we will have to pay for this!
Emergency Response Benefit
- $2,000 per month for up to four months
- On-line application is expected to be available as of April 6
o Automated telephone applications will also be provided
- Payment of benefits is expected to start ten days following application
- Who qualifies:
o Workers who must stop working due to COVID-19
§ Who do not have access to paid leave or other income support
o Workers who are sick, quarantined, or taking care of someone who is sick with COVID-19
o Working parents who must stay home without pay to care for children that are sick or need additional care because of school and daycare closures
o Workers who still have their employment but are not being paid because there is currently not sufficient work and their employer has asked them not to come to work.
o Wage earners and self-employed individuals, including contract workers, who would not otherwise be eligible for Employment Insurance.
